The EGGS! 1. Aim & Objectives: a. to provide a social golfing group for FOGGC members who are 55 years old or above. b. to provide opportunities for playing competitive golf in internal events and matches against the senior sections of other golf clubs. c. to provide opportunities for individuals to improve their game and lower their handicaps. 2. Officials & Committee: a. At the AGM, early January, members endorse nominations for Captain, Vice-Captain, Secretary, Treasurer and at least four other committee members. 3. Funding: a. There is an annual subscription which can be paid half-yearly. This can be supplemented by occasional raffles. b. This funding pays for meals following inter-club matches, food after 'internal competitions', the annual Christmas lunch, fees to the proprietors and any other running costs. 4. EGGS Playing Days: a. Nominated EGGS day is Monday (except Bank Holidays) when the 1st and 10th tees are reserved from 08.30-09.30am. (9.00-10.00am December-January). b. On an ad-hoc basis, some EGGS members also play on Wednesday and Friday mornings but these have nothing to do with the EGGS section. 5. Competitions: a. Various strokeplay and stableford 'internal' competitions are played throughout the year and the member with the best four aggregate scores in the five events is deemed 'golfer of the year'. b. The majority of nominated Monday's involve a '£ in the hat' stableford event with prizes for 1st & 2nd places. The winners incur a 2 points and 1 point penalty, respectively, which is carried throughout the year. The member with the best 6 aggregate scores over the whole qualifying period wins a trophy. c. There is an annual '4 Ball Better Ball Pairs Knockout' event, held between May and September, with partners being drawn randomly from the list of entrants. The winners receive the KO trophy. d. The competition programme also includes a wide range of 'general' competitions. 6. Inter-Club Matches: a. Matches against senior groups from other clubs are played on a home & away basis. Each team comprises 12 or 16 players. An availability sheet for the whole season is posted on the EGGS notice board in the clubhouse early in the year. N.B. It is important that members update any changes to their availability during the season. b. The team is selected by the committee, with every effort being made to ensure that each member plays an equal number of games. Only the Captain plays in each match. c. Selected teams are posted on the EGGS notice board with members required to 'tick' the sheet to confirm attendance. d. A post-match meal is held each time with relevant dress codes of the host club, i.e. Jacket & Tie or Smart Casual, this will be specified on the team sheet. For FOG home matches this will be smart casual. |
