Fantastic Season!

  With two games to go the scratch team were in the unusual position of being able to finish either second or fifth depending on how the results went as any one of 4 teams could win promotion along with runaway winners The Oaks. This was unusual territory for the team as in previous years we have been struggling at the other end of the table!!  With two home games to complete the season we were hopeful we could  reach our best ever league position and with Kirkbymoorside conceding the match to us we went into the last match at home to Sandburn hoping that a win would be good enough to get us promoted. As usual we were inferior in terms of handicaps but home advantage is important in these matches and so it proved in a tense finish. Paul Thompson lost a close match at number 1 and Mark Newton continued his good run of form coming from 3 down after 3 holes to win at number 2. Tony Martin gained another point at number 3 and with us leading two one everything depended on Glen Renton the last match. All square on the 18th tee the finish couldn't have been any more dramatic as Glen hit a huge drive and a wedge for his second and then sank the putt for a winning birdie 3!
 
 The team couldn't have done any more and whether we got promoted or not would be determined by other results. The York Union website isn't the most up to date and although all the results aren't as yet uploaded we appear to have finished joint second with Forest Park on the same number of points.     Unfortunately we wont get promoted as they have a better "goal difference" then us as they have won more individual  matches but its been a fantastic effort by the team to get this close. Thanks to Paul Thompson, Mark and Dan Newton, Tony Martin, Johnny Pattenden and Glen and Peter Renton and lets see if we can go one better next year!!
